Directing the film “Apathy is a Blueberry”

“I chose ‘Apathy is a Blueberry’ because it spoke to how difficult it can be to see a world outside of your own. With Jane we can see that we have a lot of manageable issues in our lives, and if we take ourselves out of our personal narratives we can gain some perspective of the issue at hand. With the onlookers we get a sense of the amount of information we have at our fingertips to see all the horrible things going on in the world. So many people get disconnected with the reality of things that they no longer have any feeling towards what they’re witnessing. I think it’s sometimes a form of compassion fatigue. We’re bombarded with all this news that doesn’t personally affect us so our emotional connection to the issue shuts down. In think both cases are something most people have dealt with and can understand.”
